The Evolution of a Phoenix
Hello! Welcome to my second blog post. Today, I am discussing the evolution of my logo's icon and font since 2017. In 2015, I graduated from Pellissippi State Community College with my Associate of Applied Science in Media Tech/Communication Graphics. After I graduated, I enrolled in Web Page Authoring at Pellissippi and received a certificate in Dec. 2016.
Afterward, I applied for job after job, not receiving any feedback. During this time, I was reminded of a quote by Debbie Gregory,
“Failure is not the opposite of success; it’s part of success.”
So, instead of giving up, I opened my own business. I used my testimony as part of my logo branding: a phoenix. A phoenix rises from its own ashes. Again and again, with God’s help, I have risen from impossible odds. It’s not in me to give up. So, I designed the logo below in 2017, got a business license, and opened Lawrence Creative Designs.
Initial reactions from clients were good. I had hoped those I met for coffee from networking would ask me why I chose a phoenix, and it worked. The branding and identity of my company spread with word of mouth, from excellent customer service, graphic design, and business acumen.
However, as my graphic design skills improved, I noticed that the logo icon was not symmetrical. Logos that are symmetrical gain more trust than asymmetrical logos. So, I decided to revamp Lawrence Creative Designs in 2021. Below is the result:
The new logo design received excellent feedback from clients. Time passed, and John got a new job in Elmwood, LA, just outside New Orleans. Moving to Louisiana was a hard hit for the business because I left a healthy business in Knoxville, TN, and proceeded to a state that honors Louisiana-owned businesses. However, I did gain a few clients outside of New Orleans during this time, including Orange Beach, AL, and Bell Chasse, LA. Also, a few clients from Knoxville, TN, stayed with the company even after we moved.
While we lived in the NOLA (New Orleans, LA), I continued my education, graduating from Southern New Hampshire University in 2023 with a Bachelor’s in Graphic Design with a conc. in Web Design, Summa Cum Laude.
After graduating, I wanted to let my customers know that I not only offer graphic design, but I now offer website development and design, as well as EDDM. To accomplish this, I felt it was time to rebrand again.
I am pleased with how the logo turned out. The logo is meaningful, attractive, and timeless. I designed business cards, letterheads, and my website to include the branding package.
